Gilad Cohen - composer & pianist - גלעד כהן, מלחין ופסנתרן

Israeli composer and pianist Gilad Cohen is a versatile musician, active in many musical genres. A graduate of Mannes College of Music (New York) with a Master in Composition (under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Cuckson), Gilad's choral and orchestral compositions were performed by the Mannes College Orchestra, the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Chamber Choir, the Beer Sheva Simphonietta Orchestra, the Israeli Revolution Orchestra, Ankor Choir, Moran Choir and Adi Choir, at venues such as the
2005 International Bach Festival
in Toronto, the 2007 International Spring Festival in Israel, and the Jerusalem Music Center.
Gilad has written music for a few plays, which were performed at the International Puppet Theatre Festival in Jerusalem, as well as a complete musical theatre score for Napoleon - Dead or Alive!, a play by Nissim Aloni. All plays were released as CDs with the original cast.

Gilad's Al Mishkavi Baleilot, a setting of a biblical text for mixed choir and orchestra, was performed by numerous ensembles, including Mannes College Orchestra and The Israeli Revolution Orchestra. Following its premiere, Hagay Hitron wrote in "Haaretz": "For the sake of hearing Gilad Cohen's "Al Mishkavi BaLeylot" for vocal ensemble and an orchestra, it was worth coming to this concert" (Haaretz, 3.3.2006).

In 2003, Gilad co-founded
Double Space
, an original music band combining rock, jazz, progressive and world music influences, Their debut album Windings was released in January 2006 and received raving reviews. Gilad is also a member of
Klezshop
, a modern-Klezmer trio from New York, with clarinetist Gilad Harel and violinist Jonathan Keren.

Gilad has been invited to conduct workshops for choirs by leading Israeli choirs including HaEfroni, Moran and Nofar, and was a guest conductor of Hazamir Manhattan High School Choir. In 2007 Gilad conducted his arrangement on a concert at the
2007 Zimriya International Choir Festival in Israel
.

Gilad has performed as a singer, pianist and guitarist on many stages in Israel, the US and Canada, including Symphony Space in New York. the Israeli Embassy in Washington (DC), Civic Centre in Ottawa (Canada), Bloomington University in Indiana, Georgetown University in Washington (DC), The Israeli Consulate in New York (NY), JCC Westchester (NY), Tslilim Bamidbar Festival in Sde Boker (Israel), Black and Blues Festival in Tel Aviv and the film festivals in Jerusalem and in Haifa.

Gilad has conducted and directed projects such as
Jeunesses Musicales
summer camp's choir in Israel.

Solomon Schechter School of Westchester's
2006 production of the musical Fiorello!, and the Jerusalem Scouts Band.
